It is normally a part of a series with each episode showing the developments of the individual , and day to day incidents within their life or areas of expertise. For example Big Brother, Get Me Out Of Here,The Apprentice and Hells Kitchen. Some times referred to as reality TV.

It may be set in a historical setting and involve real and fictional characters that have been put in to give the story more depth ,and edge. For example Band of Brothers, The Tudors and Seven Wonders of the Industrial World. e.g this documentary is based on real events.
